Capturing Memories: A Photographer’s Perspective on My Son’s T-Ball Games
Photography has been a passion of mine for years, from capturing the love and joy of weddings to the excitement of senior portraits. But recently, I’ve found a new kind of magic behind the lens—documenting my son’s T-ball games.
As both a mom and a photographer, I get the best seat in the house. There’s something special about watching my little one learn the game, make friends, and experience the thrill of hitting the ball and running the bases. These are the moments I want to freeze in time, not just for me, but for him to look back on one day.
T-ball is filled with pure joy—big smiles, tiny cleats, and those hilarious moments when kids run the wrong way, chase butterflies in the outfield or throw the ball in silly ways. These candid, unscripted moments are what I love to capture. Unlike posed portraits, these images tell the story of childhood in its most authentic form.
I approach photographing T-ball with the same attention to detail and emotion that I bring to my professional work. The golden hour light at evening games, the determined expressions, and the way the sun catches the dust as little feet scurry across the field—all of these elements make for stunning, heartfelt images.
Balancing being present as a mom and capturing these memories as a photographer can be tricky. I remind myself to put the camera down sometimes and just soak it all in. But when I do pick it up, I know I’m not just snapping pictures—I’m preserving a chapter of my son’s childhood that will be gone all too soon.
For any parents out there wanting to document their child’s sports journey, my advice is simple: focus on the moments, not just the action. Capture the high-fives, the team huddles, the look of determination (or distraction). These are the images that will bring back the emotions years down the road.
T-ball has reminded me why I fell in love with photography in the first place—because life moves fast, and every little moment is worth remembering.
